Make your own beer at the historic Pakruojis Manor!

The beer-making traditions of Pakruojis Manor come to life in an authentic setting, where beer is brewed using traditional methods – from preparing the malt to lautering the wort and pitching the yeast. During the Žaldoko Beer Workshop, guests discover the traditional craft of brewing and become true manor brewers themselves.

In the programme:

• Discover the ancient traditions of beer making and the craft of the Žaldokas;
• Learn which key ingredients go into making beer and how malt, hops and yeast influence its flavour;
• Grind the malt and prepare it for brewing;
• Learn the mashing process – mix the malt with hot water and prepare the mash;
• Prepare a traditional lautering tub and natural filter;
• Take part in the wort lautering process;
• Discover how hop wort is prepared and how it influences the flavour of the beer;
• Add hops and yeast to the cooled wort and prepare it for fermentation.

How long does it take?

Traditional beer brewing is a slow process, so its duration depends not only on the brewer’s work but also on time. The prepared wort is left to ferment, and depending on the temperature, sweetness of the wort and yeast activity, fermentation takes between 12 and 20 hours. The entire process, from the beginning of brewing to the finished result, takes approximately 20–28 hours.

As the beer needs time to mature and be ready for bottling, you will not need to collect it immediately after the programme. The finished beer will be bottled into 13 bottles of 0.75 l each and delivered to the address agreed with you once it is ready.

This is an introduction to the art of beer brewing and an opportunity to experience the key stages of the traditional brewing process with your own hands.
