MAGIC AND SPELLS AT PAKRUOJIS MANOR IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY: THE POWER OF HERBS AND DAILY CARD PREDICTIONS

The desire to foresee the future is as old as humanity itself. Ancient civilizations used magical rituals and spells to protect themselves from natural disasters, harmful influences, and the evil eye. They also aimed to attract good fortune, success in love, and to heal illnesses. In the 18th and 19th centuries, European scholars showed a particular interest in mysticism and alternative theories. Various pseudosciences, such as crystal ball gazing, tarot card readings, and séances with mediums (intermediaries between the human and spirit worlds), became highly popular, especially among the bored and wealthy elite.

The von der Ropp barons, known for collecting and trading valuable works of art, often traveled across Europe. On one such trip to France, they brought back fortune-telling cards, which the manor ladies used to make future predictions.

During the program at the Fortune Salon (Salon De Fortune), you’ll explore the superstitions, spells, and esoteric games of the 19th-century people of Pakruojis, along with the magical properties and powers of herbs.

But that’s not all! In the same building, you’ll visit the mysterious panopticon, where you’ll encounter the barons’ doctor’s collection of curiosities, the post-mortem room, and a magical shop.

Participants in the program will enjoy: a personal card reading for the day and the creation of a personal amulet using the magical properties of herbs. This program is ideal for bachelorette parties or women’s gatherings with a touch of magic and mystery.
