So, what exactly are Bumbulinės?
Pakruojis Manor has long been renowned for its large, prosperous and forward-thinking estate, so it is only natural that the beginning and end of the agricultural season were marked by grand celebrations. Today, as the manor brings 19th-century life back to life, it is reviving one of its traditional celebrations – Bumbulinės. During the festivities, the manor’s barons, the von der Ropps, would thank the bumbulai for their hard work by inviting the finest brewers from the region and treating everyone to a grand celebration.
MANOR LIFE
When visiting Bumbulinės, we invite you to experience life at the manor:
The Manor House. Discover the twists and turns of the manor’s history on a guided tour with the Baroness or explore the manor independently (additional fee).
The Brewery. Step inside the famous Pakruojis Manor brewery, known as the beer capital of Lithuania, where beer is still brewed according to traditional methods. Here you can discover the different stages of brewing – “first,” “second” and “third” brew.
The Distillery. Visit the distillery, established in the 16th century, where award-winning flavours are created today using unique 19th-century copper distillation vessels.
Vintage Photography & Photo Studio. Have a vintage photoshoot in a late-19th-century photography studio and witness the creation of a one-of-a-kind photograph!
Manor Craft Workshops. Visit the hardworking manor craftsmen and try their traditional crafts with your own hands.
The Panopticon. In the Room of Oddities, you will see things you have never seen before – and perhaps never even heard of: the dark secrets of the aristocracy, an anatomy theatre and a collection of curiosities from around the world…
Cabinet de Secret. Get a glimpse into the untold history of the aristocracy and discover spicy details about the secret side of high society life (additional fee).
The Dungeon of Punishment. Brace yourself for a chilling experience in Lithuania’s only Punishment Dungeon, where wrongdoers face a guillotine and even an old electric chair that appears to still be warm…
Carriage & Vintage Cars. Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage or one of the manor’s vintage cars (additional fee).
The Machinery Workshop. See a genuine 19th-century steam engine, demonstrations of old machinery and tractors from the interwar period.
Vintage Arcade Hall
The manor is home to the only arcade hall in the Baltic States featuring early gaming machines from the Prohibition era and legendary pinball machines. More than 50 different games await manor visitors.
Playground & Carousel
The children’s playground is a magnificent Flower Castle – the most colourful place for little ones to run wild and feel like real princes and princesses. One of the manor’s most delightful attractions for children is its ornate vintage carousel, which catches the eye from afar.
The Manor Farm. Horses, geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys, goats, sheep, a donkey and even a cow with calves live here! You can feed the animals and birds, collect eggs and even watch a cow being milked.
